Really good lecture. Something I'd like to see covered is the actual reason Dracula is a Count, more than just inspiration of British aristocrats who Stoker knew. I read about the history of Szekely Hungarians, of which Dracula claims ancestry, and they inhabited Transylvania long before it became a Romanian territory. They guarded the Eastern border of Hungary and actually had their own aristocratic leadership, the Counts. Reading the history of the Count of the Szekelys is really interesting stuff, and made me realize that Stoker may very well have researched Eastern European history a lot more than we give him credit for.

So interesting watching this because I'm literally in Guatemala (Lake Atitlan) right now. I've never seen the weird "K" for Quetzals (nor do we say "Quetzales" with the "les" at the end). We all just use "Q". And it's about 7.75Q for $1 now. I guess a lot has changed in 9 years :)

Very weak lecture. Although photos used as referance material was good, the presenter uses generic words just to cover up the undone research about the book, so he can promote his own work as an artist and mostly "show up". I highly recommend watching "Bazed Lit. Analyzer" analysis on M&M that took a lot more effort to do and actually goes in depth.

My reading of research suggests the poet grew up using the language dialect and pronunciation of North Staffordshire around the towns of Leek and Heaton. As additional evidence I note that in The Pearl one line uses the word ‘meer’ meaning border and the next line uses ‘brooke’ and the stream and now village of Meerbrook lies smack between Leek and Heaton. The Green Knight poem was likely commissioned as entertainment by Knight of the Garter Sir James Audley partially to honour the memory of his close friend the renowned knight of the Garter Sir John Chandos called an exceptional knight and commander,Viscount and Governor of Aquitaine, in the first 30years of the 100 years War. James and John were founder members of the order which has the same motto as embroided on the green sash by Arthur. The gold pentacle on red is similar to the arms of Sir James Audley and forms a letter A five times. Audley owned hunting lands to the north of Heaton Staffordshire that included a wild green chasm in the rocks, called today Lud’s Church.
